Fifteen years ago Anne and Benny purchased an old country house with some land in the Berry region, France, which soon became their second home. Since his youth, Benny has been passionate about horses, for Anne this came much later in life when she learned to ride a horse at the age of 45. Some years ago she bought her first horse, Tekila, a cross between thoroughbred and hunter.
She is a large mare ideal for walks in the woods or to be used as a carriage horse .
Having their own business in Belgium did not leave much free time for Anne and Benny, so it was no surprise when some years ago they decided the time was right to exchange this for a quieter lifestyle in France, focussing fully on a rural and rustic lifestyle in the country.
In 2014 Benny successfully completed a training as a blacksmith.
On 25 September 2013, when by chance they were in France, they discover their horse Tekila standing cripple amongst the other horses. The vet diagnosed a fractured bone, beneath the joint of the left rear leg. There was not much hope of healing such an injury. A difficult choice had to be made; to operate or not. The decision was taken to operate in Gros Bois, east of Paris. The operation was very successful, however there was a need of intensive care and recuperation before the horse was able to walk without a limp.
Tekila, now already seven years, would never recover, so the decision was taken to let her spend the rest of her life in La Lande, Feusines where Anne and Benny had purchased a second farm with 10 acres of idyllic land, a stream criss crossing through it and here and there a solitary old oak tree to shelter from rain or sun with also an old barn to transform into a horse stable. Also the local farmer is present at all tiles, should there be ever comp any problems.
A local vet, who is always on hand should there be a problem, remarked that this would be an ideal place for retired horses. and this became the start of Anne and Benny's new venture. More horses like Tekila could spend their old age out in the paddock in a peaceful idyllic place.
